Hazelnut-honey crusted Salmon
Using a popular item on the Silverstream menu, our kitchen has come up with a SCOFF special that was inspired by personal encounters and visits to local producers whom we have met since taking over the hotel in May this year.
The hazelnut-honey crusted salmon on leafy greens with roasted root vegetables and tzatziki features the Mackenzie’s very own Mt Cook Alpine Salmon from the fresh waters of Mt Cook, delicious hazelnuts from Fairlie Nuts, tasty honey from Westland's Honey in Kimbell, and organic root vegetables from Everslea Gardens near Fairlie.
The Silverstream Hotel Kimbell is the Mackenzie Region’s historic country pub.
Established in 1877, the “New Stone Hotel” – as it was referred to in its very first advertisement in the Timaru Herald – “has been fitted up with every Convenience for the accommodation of Travellers, Private Families, Picnic and Wedding Parties. The Scenery in the neighbourhood is extremely beautiful and well worthy of the attention of tourists. Wines, Ales and Spirits of the Choicest Brands.” The same remains true today. Even “Secure Paddocks for travelling Stock” can still be arranged!
Come in to experience it yourself: warm up by the fireplace, enjoy a wine or craft beer on tap, and taste test the Kimbell Burgers. All enjoyed either inside the pub or in the expansive beer garden. Weekly meal specials, desserts, a kids menu, as well as take-away options are also available.
The Silverstream Hotel Kimbell is easily found – follow State Highway 8 ten minutes up from Fairlie or twenty minutes down the road from Tekapo.
